The British Gas Energy Trust (the Trust) is pleased to announce it has reopened its White Goods Fund; an initiative aimed at providing essential household appliances to those in need across England, mainland Scotland and Wales.
Last year, the White Goods Fund supplied 2,148 critical items such as refrigerators, cookers, and washing machines, directly helping 6,627 individuals struggling with financial hardship. The fund is now available in England, mainland Scotland and Wales, with applications being accepted through British Gas or charitable organisations funded by the Trust.
CEO of the Trust, Jessica Taplin said, “The White Goods Fund plays a vital role in supporting families who are facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives. When a household lacks essential items like a working fridge or an oven, daily life can become a constant challenge. This fund helps relieve some of that pressure by providing equipment every home needs to function more easily. It’s not just about convenience; it’s about creating a safe and healthy home.”
The White Goods Fund has helped people like Sam*, a Big Issue vendor. Sam is disabled, and lives with his family in a small flat in the north of England. When Sam’s cooker broke, a Big Issue money and energy advisor was able to provide him with a new one through the Trusts White Goods Fund. They continued to support him by sourcing a new fridge-freezer, LED lightbulbs, curtains, a heated airer and heated blankets, as well as providing energy efficiency tips.
