The Merseyside Fuel Poverty Conference 2025
The Merseyside Fuel Poverty Conference 2025, hosted by Energy Projects Plus and supported by the British Gas Energy Trust, brought together a diverse range of organisations and stakeholders for a vital day of action and collaboration on 11th November 2025 in Liverpool. The event saw local authorities, social housing providers, advice agencies, health and social care professionals, and the voluntary sector come together in pursuit of lasting solutions to fuel poverty; an urgent challenge facing more than one in eight households across Merseyside.
Attendees heard keynote presentations from sector leaders on the social, health, and economic repercussions of fuel poverty. A central theme highlighted by all speakers was the importance of cross-sector partnerships. Delegates explored practical ideas to overcome local barriers, drawing on the collective expertise in the room. They were also able to strengthen their networks, and committed to improving support for vulnerable residents, accelerating access to a fair, affordable, and energy-efficient future for everyone.
Speakers included Peter Owen (Energy Projects Plus), Rhiannon Clarke (Health Innovation North West Coast), Jemma Baker (OFGEM), Amber Cairns (United Utilities), Dominic Griffiths (Energy Projects Plus) and Tracey Talbot, Interim CEO of the British Gas Energy Trust.
About the event, Tracey Talbot said: “It was fantastic to attend the Merseyside Fuel Poverty Conference and connect with so many organisations committed to ending fuel poverty. Being there alongside Energy Projects Plus, one of our longstanding partners, was a real highlight. I was especially inspired by their collaboration with Health Innovation North West Coast to enable GP referrals into their service, an approach that ensures more people in fuel poverty are identified and supported. It was a brilliant day full of shared learning and collective ambition; exactly what’s needed to create lasting change.”
By fostering an environment where knowledge, experience, and resources can be shared, the Merseyside Fuel Poverty Conference 2025 marked a pivotal step towards collective action and delivering on the core mission of the British Gas Energy Trust: alleviating fuel poverty so people can live in warmer, more resilient homes.
