Helping households save with Hive

The British Gas Energy Trust is working with Hive to provide smart energy-saving technology to households struggling with fuel poverty. The scheme will see Trust funded organisations across England and Wales refer eligible families and individuals to receive a Hive Bundle, designed to cut bills, reduce energy waste, and lower carbon emissions.

The initiative offers two Hive Bundles tailored to customers’ circumstances:

  • Hive Connected Home Bundle – Includes a Hive Thermostat with installation by a British Gas engineer, Hive Hub, 3x smart radiator valves, 3x smart plugs, 3x smart bulbs, and 12 months Hive + membership.
  • Hive Tenant Bundle – Includes a Hive Hub, 3x smart radiator valves, 3x smart plugs, and 3x smart bulbs. Designed for renters and those unable to install a thermostat.

Both bundles allow households to control heating room-by-room, switch appliances on or off remotely, and schedule lighting for maximum energy efficiency.

The Hive Thermostat allows users to schedule, boost, or switch off their heating anytime, even via voice control apps. Smart radiator valves allow users to control the temperature in each room, ensuring money isn’t wasted heating empty rooms, while Hive plugs and bulbs help cut unnecessary energy use.

Those receiving the Hive Connected Home Bundle also benefit from 12 months of Hive+ membership, which includes efficiency monitoring, budgeting tools, and access to exclusive energy offers.

British Gas Energy Trust and Hive are working closely to ensure households get the most from their packs. Since January 2025, over 100 Hive Connected Home Bundles have been installed, with a further 30 households receiving a Hive Tenant Bundle.

By offering Hive technology to those most at risk of fuel poverty, the Trust is empowering households to be more in control of their energy use, saving money today while also contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.
