British Gas Energy Trust welcomes three new Trustees

British Gas Energy Trust has today announced the appointment of two new Trustees, Ruth Kennedy and Miranda Corti, alongside Aspiring Trustee Ngozi Nwosu.

Arvinda Gohil OBE, recently appointed Chair of the Trust, said:

“As we look to build on the achievements of the last 20 years, utilising our learning to grow the positive impact of the Trust to meet the current and increasing need; I’m delighted to be welcoming Ruth and Miranda as new trustees. As part of our commitment to improving diversity in the sector, I am also really delighted to be supporting Ngozi as an aspiring Trustee. I look forward to the positive contribution they will make in supporting the development of our future strategy, and influencing the change needed to ensure a more equitable and sustainable future for people in fuel poverty.”

The new Trustees are:

Since its inception in 2004, the Trust has invested £198m to support more than 700,000 individuals. In a recent report from Oxford Economics, it was revealed that for every £1 spent by the Trust, it yielded £5.50 in societal value, including gains to the exchequer and savings to the NHS.

About Ruth Kennedy

Ruth studied at the University of Cambridge before working as a Policy Advisor for 10 Downing Street, a Senior Policy Advisor at the Cabinet Office, and Head of Family Policy in the Department for Education. She is currently the Founder Director of The Public Office, working with organisations to create change and improve outcomes for the public. Other Trustee roles held by Ruth include Chair at One Plus One and non-executive Director and Trustee at Centre for Public Impact.

About Miranda Corti

Miranda holds a Business Studies degree, an ACCA and an MBA. She has worked at Lazard Brothers & Co, The Royal Bank of Scotland and The IFRS Foundation, most recently as Director of Operations. She has held voluntary and Trustee roles at Raleigh International, the National Trust, East Hertsmere Citizens Advice and Break and is currently a Pension Fund Trustee at Lazard London.

About Ngozi Nwosu

Ngozi’s received a Bachelors Degree from Haagse Hogeschool Netherlands (University Of The Hague) and the University Of Ottawa, and has a Masters degree from the London School of Economics. Her career has included positions at Royal Bank of Scotland, Deutsche Investment Bank, CME Group, and HSBC. She is currently in Portfolio Reporting and Process Governance for Citigroup. Ngozi has carried out voluntary roles with the Passionate Empowered Network, Ascension Eagles Cheerleaders, Deutsche Bank’s dbGO Network and House on the Rock Church.

The British Gas Energy Trust is a Charitable Trust established in 2004 and independent from, but solely funded by, British Gas. Its mission is to alleviate the detrimental impact of poverty, with a focus on fuel poverty.
Support is delivered through three programmes: energy grants which can help households with up to £2,000 in fuel debt; a small grants programme that provides emergency energy vouchers and assistance payments; and a programme that funds over 40 money and energy advice projects throughout Britain.
