British Gas Energy Trust funds support for minoritised ethnic women and their families
Hopscotch Women’s Centre has been awarded a grant of £44,516 by the British Gas Energy Trust, to provide tailored money and energy advice to minoritised ethnic women and families across London over the next twelve months.
Hopscotch Women’s Centre, an organisation that focuses on addressing racial and gender inequity to empower women, plan to use the funding to run money and energy workshops for vulnerable adults and young people. They will equip participants with practical knowledge and tools, empowering them to take control of their finances and make informed decisions.
Topics covered in the workshops will include understanding money basics, the power of financial independence, budgeting solutions, efficient energy usage and environmental impact. Participants will be able to set achievable personal goals as part of the workshop, helping them move toward financial stability.
The Trust funds over 40 regional and nationwide projects across England, Scotland, and Wales, ensuring money and energy provision is reaching struggling communities across Britain. These projects can help with several issues, from understanding bills to budgeting support to income maximisation.

“We know the impact of fuel poverty on those we serve. With the support of Jessica and her amazing team at the British Gas Energy Trust, we are able to look at fuel poverty through two lenses. Firstly, we will work closely with those who are vulnerable and currently accessing our services with a risk of fuel debt. We will be able to provide immediate support and gather data on the problems experienced by this demographic. Secondly, we will be working in schools with those at risk of exclusion, about way to manage money, and prevent fuel debt in the future – using engaging exercises to place importance on financial independence and stability. We are thrilled to be supported by the British Gas Energy Trust with the essential work.”

The Centre specialise in a person-centred and culturally sensitive approach which helps them reach more vulnerable groups. Their enduring presence and the trust they’ve built over the years means they are a recognised and important resource for women and families. The new project will provide funding to establish a new energy advice element, adding to the advocacy and financial support they provide to their clients.”
