British Gas Energy Trust condemns xenophobic and racist violence
British Gas Energy Trust condemns the xenophobic and racist violence that has caused fear and turmoil in so many communities across the country.
We are disturbed by these attacks on communities and stand against all hatred, bigotry and bias.
The Trust is shocked and deeply saddened that support and advice charities such as Citizen’s Advice Sunderland who work tirelessly to support people struggling with poverty have been directly impacted affecting their staff and volunteers. In the case of CA Sunderland their money advice unit was burnt out after rioters attacked a police station next door – this service was a vital support, offering crisis advice on a daily basis as well as providing food support to over 100 people every day. This service now has to overcome the destruction whilst trying to continue this vital support to the diverse communities in its locality.
The Trust has a long history of funding money and energy advice charities that deliver person-centred support in communities with high levels of deprivation – many of these committed charities operate within communities affected by the abhorrent behaviour witnessed over the last week.
We will continue to support these charities and the communities affected.
