Recognising the vital role of advisors supporting households across the UK

Today marks the start of Advice Week, an annual initiative that celebrates and raises awareness of the vital role advisors play across the UK. Every day, advisors are on the front line, helping people navigate complex issues including money, energy, and wellbeing; support that has never been more important.
In 2024/25, the Trust funded 166 advisors working across more than 40 money and energy advice projects in England, Scotland, and Wales. These dedicated professionals have made a tangible difference in the lives of thousands of individuals and families facing challenges.
Over the past year, advisors supported nearly 40,000 clients, contributing an incredible 134,000 hours of tailored, person-centred support. The range of topics they cover reflects the wide-ranging and interconnected nature of fuel poverty; from budgeting and income maximisation to benefits checks, understanding energy bills, switching tariffs, and providing practical energy efficiency advice.
Each client’s situation is unique, but one thing is consistent: the complexity of the challenges they face. Advisors collectively helped resolve around 160,000 issues this year — an average of four separate issues per client. This figure highlights just how multifaceted the struggle against fuel poverty can be. For many, difficulties with energy costs are closely tied to broader financial pressures such as low income, debt, or health-related barriers.
Advice Week offers an opportunity to recognise not only the numbers, but the people behind them; advisors who bring expertise, empathy, and commitment to every conversation. Their work empowers clients to make informed choices, improve their financial resilience, and ultimately, take control of their energy use and household budgets.
