Taking on fuel poverty: article for New Philanthropy Capital

Trust Chief Executive, Jessica Taplin, contributed a guest blog to New Philanthropy Capital’s website this month:

Read >> Taking on fuel poverty and the ongoing energy crisis.

Looking at the challenges facing vulnerable households this winter, including rising household bills and energy costs, Jessica suggests targeting help towards groups at risk of fuel poverty who are currently under-represented, like private sector tenants for example, is key.

Finding ways to reach and support people before they hit crisis point should be a priority. Leveraging local partnerships and referral networks to reach those who might not ‘self refer’ will produce better longterm outcomes in the community.

The Trust works with NPC on the Local Needs Databank to map fuel poverty across England, Scotland and Wales and uses this data to target its grant programmes where need is greatest.
