Position: Senior Head of Policy and Insight

John is a highly experienced public affairs and policy professional and influencer with over 30 years experience. He has worked at a high-level in the third and private sectors, and in consultancy roles, successfully shaping and delivering the public affairs, policy, communications, and stakeholder engagement strategies of three high-profile membership organisations.
He began his career at the Federation of Small Business (FSB) in Scotland, before moving into consultancy and becoming Director of Public Affairs for the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) for nine years until 2019. His consultancy work since included an interim role with the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS).
John has served in non-Executive Board roles for a number of third sector organisations including Chair of Impact Arts, one of Scotland’s leading social enterprises. He is currently a member of gas provider SGN’s Vulnerability Steering Group (VSG), which provides oversight, guidance and governance on the strategic and operational approach and decisions taken by SGN to support vulnerable customers.
