The British Gas Energy Trust incorporating the Scottish Gas Energy Trust, is an independent charitable Trust , established in 2004. The Trust is funded solely from donations from British Gas - £6 million in 2017/18. The Trust contributes to the relief of poverty, with a particular focus on fuel poverty.

The Trust helps families and individuals experiencing hardship ,who are struggling with gas and electricity debts, by awarding grants to clear those debts. This makes a significant difference to the lives of thousands of people each year, helping them to get back on their feet and remain debt free going forward.
The Trust also funds organisations across England, Wales and Scotland to provide fuel debt and money advice services within communities.

The British Gas Energy Trust is an independent Charitable Trust. The governance and development of the Trust is overseen by a group of unpaid Trustees drawn from across the UK. The Trustees meet on a quarterly basis.
Imelda has 20 years' experience working in senior roles in the not-for-profit sector. Most currently the National Director for Healthwatch England, recently she was CEO of the charity 4Children, where she lead the organisation through a period of significant change.
Before that Imelda was Director of Policy and Public Affairs at Marie Curie Cancer Care, and Chief Executive of Carers UK where in 2009 she received a CBE for her services to disadvantaged people. Imelda is passionate about championing access the right help for people and ensuring their views are listened to.
Peter has been at NEA since July 2010 and was appointed a director in 2016. He is responsible for overseeing the charity’s policy and research work; working with government, industry and other stakeholders to address the causes and impacts of fuel poverty. He has particular interest and expertise in the field of domestic energy efficiency and decentralised energy policy. He also provides the strategic direction for NEA’s role as the secretariat of the All-Party Parliamentary Fuel Poverty and Energy Efficiency Group. Prior to joining NEA Peter played a leading role within the combined heat and power industry.
Colin has established two not-for-profit money advice centres in Plymouth, one of which he still project manages: Plymouth Focus Advice Centre. He is also a specialist tutor in mental health and vulnerability and has written and tutored courses both for advisers and creditors across the whole of the UK as part of the MAT's Wiseradviser branded training programme for a number of years.
Steven is an ICAEW qualified accountant currently working as an Audit Principal for the National Audit Office. His experience in public sector audit includes government departments and publicly funded charities. His current role involves the audit of the Academies Sector.
Daksha has 14 years’ experience in the advice sector supporting people to access advice and information and campaigning to tackle unfair policies and practices to protect the most vulnerable on a local, regional and national basis.
Previously she was Head of Campaigns and Targeted Services for Coventry Citizens Advice and was responsible for the development and operational delivery services with private sector partners to tackle fuel and water poverty.
Daksha is now a Project Manager and third sector consultant, a Trustee for Team Springboard Community Interest Company and Independent Oversight Panel member for the WATRS Water Redress Scheme.
Maxine has 30 years of experience at senior management level across a diverse range of roles in the not for profit sector, including significant interim senior management roles as a management consultant. She has held CEO and Director Roles in small, medium and large charities and with social housing and care providers.
